Tucson HVAC Contractor Steps Up to the Plate for MS Cure Again in 2018

Tucson-based HVAC contractor D&H AC and HVAC manufacturer Daikin will donate close to $10,000 to the National MS Society for the 25th Annual Walk MS to take place in Tucson on 3/17/2018.

Tucson, AZ – March 12, 2018 – While raising awareness for a cure for MS is the focus of the 25th Annual Walk MS organized in Tucson by the National MS Society, the donation platter stops again this year at the door of corporate donors. And just like last year, D&H Air Conditioning & Heating (www.dandhac.com) is stepping up to the plate for the cause.

For the Tucson-based HVAC contractor, the cause is not theoretical but personal: Jackie, the wife of a long-time employee, has been diagnosed with MS in 2009. Always the fighter, Jackie has been an active volunteer for the cause ever since she received news about her medical condition. But today, some 9 years into her ordeal, she is seeing her health decline, more rapidly than before.

While Jackie and her husband are looking at experimental treatments as possible alternatives to the predictable outcome of her illness, they both continue to volunteer for the National MS Society. And this year again, Randy knocked at the door of his employer on behalf of the Society.

In turn, the President of D&H AC called the Houston-based headquarters of HVAC system manufacturer Daikin. And just like in 2017, Daikin agreed to donate a complete air conditioning system to the winner of an auction organized by the National MS Society in the course of the 25th Annual Walk MS event. D&H AC will donate the value of the engineering and installation labor.

Brett Wright, President of D&H AC, stated: “Both Daikin and D&H AC hope their combined efforts will help Jackie and Randy raise close to $10,000 for the National MS Society this year. We are keenly aware that our effort is a drop in the bucket. But we also know that by joining other Tucson-based employers to set an example in the community, the research will continue to get funded and a cure will eventually be found.”

On March 17, the Daikin air conditioning system will go on the auction block. The highest bidder will receive a unit completely tailored by D&H AC for their home, and 100% of the auction proceeds will benefit the National MS Society. Just like last year, Jackie and her husband will make the 25th Annual Walk MS count to help those battling this illness. They both will be leading the ‘Jogging for Jackie’ team.

Drumroll please: It's Sir Ringo as ex-Beatle knighted

Mar 21, 2018

LONDON — Call him Sir Ringo now, or Sir Richard to be more precise. Either way, it's a fitting honor for the former Beatles drummer, who has waited decades for the recognition. The 77-year-old Ringo Starr received his long-awaited knighthood from Prince William Tuesday. He used his real name Richard Starkey for the big event. He said the honor "means a lot". It comes more than half a century after the youthful Beatles first went to Buckingham Palace to receive MBE awards. The other surviving Beatle, Paul McCartney, was knighted in 1997. "I had dinner with him last week and...

Kensington Palace said Tuesday the royal wedding cake will be a lemon elderflower concoction incorporating "the bright flavors of spring." It'll be covered with buttercream, and adorned with fresh flowers. Look for a hint of California too — the designated pastry chef Claire Ptak was raised in California and worked as a pastry chef under the celebrated Alice Waters at Chez Panisse in Berkeley. Ptak now runs Violet Bakery in London. The palace says the couple are "very much...

The 'force' with Mark Hamill at Dublin's St. Patrick's Day

The "Star Wars" actor, whose great-grandmother was born in Ireland, was invited to represent the Irish diaspora at the celebration. Hamill spent time on Ireland's rocky Skellig Michael island filming the most recent "Star Wars" movie, "The Last Jedi." Hamill sported a tweed cap, a green scarf and a shamrock sprig as he attended the parade, which sees floats, colorfully clad performers and marching bands wind their way through the Irish capital.
